WebNov 12, 2024 · Discussion Starter · #1 · Sep 27, 2024. I recently ran into a very odd issue with a SBC 400 I was rebuilding. I have rebuilt a few 400 sbc's and currently have six cores . The one I just put the shortblock together is a 511 block, however it has the bottom steam holes but no upper steam holes in the block. Has anyone else run into this. This is where you thread them, plug them and drill a small 3/16 hole for coolant to pass thru. These help stabalize the block deck and reduce flexure around the small steam holes.
